"How fitting,"Jenny felt, as she looked down upon the jagged peaks of Washington State's North Cascades as the airliner made its descent —she had transfers to make from Seattle, to Portland, and then by puddle-jumper to Bend, Oregon —that perhaps her father's most difficult task of all lay ahead. She was in a severe state of depression. She was coming home to Dad to literally ask his help saving her life.

"Well, that was," she reprimanded herself, "a bit over dramatic."

Yet, her father was the only person in the whole wide world that loved her. Home was wherever the person who loved you happened to be, and this summer, home happened to be a survival training camp on Mt. Cascade.

Other than this place she had never seen before, there was nowhere else to go. Other than this one special person, she was terribly alone.
